THINGS TO CONSIDER
Signs and graphics are typically a medium to long term investment, so making the right decisions early in the process can help to save hundreds or thousands of dollars later on. The sales staff at Graphic FX are there to help you to make an informed decision by discussing some of the key considerations that can affect how you plan to proceed.
BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS
We can offer solutions for every budget, from low-cost business start-up options to premium long-term investments. Our goal is to ensure that your getting the most value you can regardless of how much money you have to spend.
BRANDING & AESTHETICS
Colours, fonts and design have a direct impact on brand recognition, so it’s important that they are compatible with and complement your business products and the image you are trying to convey. If you’re starting a new business or rebranding an existing one, as a starting point it’s a good idea to bring some examples of other business that have caught your eye or that you would like to emulate in some way.
LOCATION & VISIBILITY
There is no point in investing in signs or graphics that won’t be seen. You need to consider where, who and what: Where will the sign be placed? Will it be seen primarily by pedestrians, drivers or both? Are there any physical or structural factors that will limit or affect the size, shape or style or the ability to provide illumination?
DURABILITY & WEATHER
Under certain weather conditions, exposure to human-made pollutants or continual handling, some materials are naturally more durable than others. Therefore, it’s important to know what kinds of weather or hazards your signage will be subjected to and to what degree. Rain, wind, sun exposure and frequency of use are the things to always keep in mind when discussing options with our sales staff or making decisions on your own.
LOCAL SIGN BYLAWS
Each municipality in Greater Victoria has its own unique set of sign bylaws which are often broken into smaller sign zones within the municipality. Types and sizes of signs permitted can vary greatly depending on the municipality, sign zone or business type. The City of Victoria, for example, has six distinct sign zones within its borders.
When discussing your signage needs and wants, our sales team will specify what is permitted for your specific situation and work with our designers to ensure that your sign is in compliance. Although client’s can apply for sign permits themselves, most prefer to have Graphic FX handle it on their behalf. Quotes will specify whether the cost of preparing and applying for a permit is included in the price.
